Read the Poem Below called Citizens of the World by Dave Calder

when you are very small
maybe not quite born
your parents move
for some reason you may never understand they move
from their own town
from their own land
and you grow up in a place
that is never quite your home

and all your childhood people
with a smile or a fist say
you’re not from here are you
and part of you says fiercely yes I am
and part of you feels no I’m not
I belong where my parents belonged

but when you go to their town, their country
people there also say
you’re not from here are you
and part of you says no I’m not
and part of you feels fiercely yes I am

and so you grow up both and neither
and belong everywhere and nowhere much the same
both stronger and weaker for the lack of ground
able to fly but not to rest

and all over the world, though you feel alone
are millions like you, like a great flock of swallows
soaring or faling exhausted, wings beating the rhythem
of the wind that laughs at fences or frontiers,
whose home is itself, and the whole world it moves over.

  3. I believe that this poem is about people having to leave there country and moving
somewhere else or has been force to move away. I think that these people are refuges because they had to leave there country to go to a different country because there country has been boomed or attacked.

  4. Their talking about when your very small not quiet born yet your parents move to a different country so their safe.
I feel sorry for them because they have to move they havent got what they waunt and they cant afford the money to buy stuff.
They think home is a place that you own.
because is dangerous in that country and they want to pretect every one in their family. They are poor people who is in need for homes.

  5. Its about not knowing where you belong because it said in the poem people say your not from here are you then it said a part of you feels like you belong a other part of you feels like you don’t belong.
People have to leave there countries and go to another because there country might be bombed or attacked.

  6. 1)I believe that the poem is about people moving to a different country and when you are not quite born yet your mom moves to a place which is not home.
2)I think that the people are called refugee an the people caring babies are called mom.
3)It makes me feel sad because when people have to leave they have to work hard to fit in.

  7. 1)I think the poem is about refugees when they had to leave their country.
2)I think the people who are carrying the babies are the moms.
3)It makes me feel sad for them because their mum might die from a disease and she might of not told them what country they come from.
    4) Because in their country it might be a war there or there was an attack.
5)It means there old country where they used to live in.

  8. 1. The poem is about is if you belong here and the poem is asking is this the right place for me or it is not. Parents move because they want they’re child to have a good life.
    2. These people are parents with there new born baby. These people might be trying to escape from there countries because something is happening to there countries.
    3. It makes me feel gutted and makes me fight the people that are being racists and being favoritism to others.

Question 1: I think the poem is about refugee because nearly all refugees move from places to places and probably leave their own home for particular reasons such as democracy or war.

Question 2 : I think home means to them that were they are born or were they come from. Probably home means to them that were there family originally comes from or were there grandparents comes from .

Question 3 : I think that when people leave their country they leave because a lot of people are getting killed and the want to protect there self and their family and run away to a refuge camp or to another country because of the war or democracy

Question 4 : This makes me feel very sad because if that was happening to me then I would feel really terrible and wished I was somebody else because I wouldn’t want to get killed.

    1. I think that this poem is about citizens of the world and about people having to leave there homes cause of things that are happening in peoples countries .
    4. I believe that people have to leave there homes because there countries and homes are being bombed or burnt down by soldiers or terrorist because they don’t like there religion or skin color and they want them to be the same . And so they do rood things and try to kill them for example pearl who is a refugee has decided to come to England because soldiers are bombing her country and are burning there house down . so she came here and sadly had to leave her family behind and came to our school to stay in our school caravan while she is being housed .
