  1. Show not tell means is when you show how a character is doing but not their feeling and by saying what the character is doing the reader all ready knows how they feel.
Writers usually use sad, happy, angry, or exited.
My example is : Ravens eyes lit up and her jaw dropped as she saw the Christmas tree.

  2. A show not tell is when you tell how a character is feeling but not show the reader what is the feeling for example: I ran to the toilet as my face turned pale white . Now you know that they are feeling sick I didn’t tell the reader that the character is sick i showed them how the character is feeling .Writers normally use it when a character is happy, angry, sad, surprised or exited.Another example: she jumped and squealed.

  3. Show not tell means that it gives you a description but does not tell you how the person is feeling. For example in Wild Boy when Clarissa is angry the author says that she hatched in to a fire breathing dragon. For my example i would say his face turned red and he clenched his fists.

  4. Show not tell means that you do not tell the reader what is happening but you describe how it is happening.
With yellow eyes glowing red, long black fur that stood on end, a mouth full of sharp pointed teeth that emitted a yowl like a tiger.
With his sharp, pointed teeth and slick fur twisting in the wind the lion pounced at the human.

  5. Show not tell sentences is a technique often used in any book and is used to stop the reader getting bored and instead of just staying he was sad you could say he huddled in the corner as his eyes filled with tears. An example of this is in Wild Boy where it talked about Clarissa feeling extremely angry and it said there is like a storm raging up inside her. An example of my own show not tell sentence is his face turned a pale green as he left his seat and rushed to the toilet.

  6. Show not tell is a device used by clever writers to express how a character is feeling rather than stating it. e.g. Sweat rolled down Ruby’s face and she panted like a dog. That shows that Ruby was hot.

Where a writer has used show not tell:

Derek groaned. That shows that Derek is annoyed and grumpy.

  7. 1. Show not tell is a technique that makes sure a reader experiences the story through action, words, thoughts and not to tell the reader the straight forward emotion.
    2. ‘Aslan stared at the gloomy Gargoyle with red eyes, without knowing his paws were digging a giant hole in the ground’ is an example from The Chronicles of Narnia.
‘Dovewing ripped tufts of fur from he body and chewed on the oak branch she was gripping tightly.
    3. She turned around sharply and stared with glaring eyes at the naughty, little girl.

  8. Show not tell means when you don’t tell the reader what the character is feeling EG : as soon as they went down the hill on the rollercoaster, Ava thrust her hands in the air and screamed (that showed that she was exited for the drop) an example of a show do not tell in a book: Derek groaned (that showed that he was annoyed at something )

  9. Show, don’t tell is a technique often employed in various kinds of texts to enable the reader to experience the story through action, words, thoughts, senses, and feelings rather than through the author’s exposition, summarization, and description.

  10. 1. ‘Show not tell’ means that when you are reading a book, then sometimes you can see a sentence eg.: His face came red and he hid behind his mum. That sentence tells you that the boy was shy, because when you are shy, then you blush and don’t speak to much. So ‘show not tell’ means that you don’t tell the reader he was shy, you can tell them more detailed/how he was shy or what was he doing when he was shy.

    2. He was scared, eg.: He jumped ,when he saw the small bats, he screamed ,when the weird, scary noise came closer to him and even closer, like something is coming to him.

  11. 1. Sweat rapidly, trickled down Aaliyah face as if it was raining .
    2. Crying loudly, tears rushed down my eyes .
    3. My cheeks turned red and my heart began to drop .
    4. I jumped with joy as if it was my best time of my life .

prendegast was frightened within a inch of his life

  12. Jack was so scared that his face turned red.
Sam felt so sick that his cheeks changes to green.
My cheeks were so cold I went inside.
Blushing, I hid my face in my hand.
Crying loudly , tears rushed down my eyes.

  13. Show do not tell means not to say how a character is feeling so for example ,Josh’s stomach was aching but there was nothing he could do about it.
This is my own example, Mustafa looked at the food so desperate to eat it as he stole 10 chocolate bars and ran away. This is another example, Sharon, who was looking down the cliff blown away, screamed as she dropped.

  14. A show not tell is a phrase that uses emotive feeling or language for a person.
Alice sweat was like in a boiled volcano and her skin was hot as a heater.
Tom ducked his dirty hand into his face during singing in front of a bunch audience.
Lucien”s cheeks became pink when Wild Boy found out that he got the black diamond.

  15. What does ‘show not tell mean’? show not tell is when you describe how someone is feeling but not exactly saying it e.g Her spine was tingling. The writer is telling you that she is scared or nervous without saying she was scared / she was nervous. Can you find an example of where a writer has used show not tell to convey a character’s feelings? the young boy heard the floor creak and his heart thumped harder and faster as it got louder.Give an example of your own ‘show not tell’ I have done that above but i will will write another one. e.g the girls heart thumped and her cheeks blushed. Thats telling you that she is embarrassed.

  16. Show not tell means when your explaining a feeling but you don’t say it. e.g. beads of sweat rolled down my forehead. That sentence means I am hot. another example is my face turned pale green and I needed to vomit. That shows that im sick. one example from my book is while everyone was looking at me, I felt like running home. That shows that im shy.

  17. A show not tell is when a character has a feeling (for example: excitement) but they don’t say Amy is exited they say Amy shrieked with excitement . Here’s a example from Wild Boy and the black terror : Clarissa had tears rolling down her cheeks.

  18. A show don’t tell sentence is a sentence that shows how a person is feeling without saying it, for example Wild Boy’s forehead beaded with sweat as he carried on walking to find the Killer. Lucien’s shoulders shrugged slowly. Clarissa anger filled up with all her angriness.
